Cultural Diversity

The Suffield Academy Family

Suffield Academy is a close-knit, diverse family of students, faculty, and staff who share a common belief that every member of its community owns the right to a safe and welcoming campus environment. A successful and inclusive population flourishes only to the degree that the virtues of mutual respect, generosity, and concern for others are maintained. Therefore, it is vitally important that harassment and discrimination in all their forms not be tolerated. Our diversity and character can be measured in part by the kind of human relationships built and sustained within this small but complex environment.

We are a school that takes great pride in the unbiased inclusion of race, gender, and cultures. The educational living and learning experience at Suffield is designed to promote a healthy, thriving campus climate and a community of excellence predicated on respect for others. We believe an equitably diverse and inclusive education is transformative. Our philosophy is transparent: We selflessly serve our students, faculty, and staff with a respectful code of conduct, leadership, and integrity. Our community is proud to embody students, faculty, administrators, and staff concerning all issues of equity and opportunity as they relate to race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, and gender expression.

Suffield Academy is a member of a ten school consortium called SPHERE. Initially established as a summer enrichment program that provided students from Hartford an opportunity to study on the various campuses, SPHERE currently serves as a vehicle to examine and discuss issues pertaining to diversity and multiculturalism on our respective campuses.
