Tuition

The annual boarding tuition charge covers instruction, room, board, basic health center and medical care, all meals in the dining hall, all physical training and athletic privileges, use of laboratory and computer equipment, and admission to all school concerts, assemblies, plays and athletic contests. The annual day student tuition charge covers all of the above with the exclusion of room. The annual tuition charge does not include optional off-campus activities such as movies, concerts, indoor tennis, ski trips or weekend travel. It also does not include books, athletic equipment, vacation travel, the required laptop computer or such special services as tutoring, private lessons in music and personal laundry.

A substantial financial aid budget provides grants and scholarships or a combination of these two resources for tuition assistance. Intended as a supplement to family resources, financial aid awards are made not only to families whose ability to pay is extremely limited, but also to those of more substantial means who may need only a minor subsidy to meet the tuition charges.

Families can apply for financial aid by visiting the NAIS website and completing the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS). Suffield Academy’s code is 7558.

The Suffield Academy Financial Aid Budget
For the 2016-17 academic year, our financial aid budget of more than $4.35 million helped support the education expenses of approximately one-third of our students. However, because our resources are finite, we are unable to accept all of the qualified students who qualify for financial aid. If the total financial need of accepted applicants exceeds the financial aid budget, decisions will be based on individual merits and institutional needs, and candidates may be placed on the school’s waiting list. Communication with families on the waiting list will come if aid becomes available at a later date. It is also important to note that returning students who do not receive financial aid in their first year are unlikely to be considered for aid in subsequent years.

Leadership Scholars Award
In order to emphasize leadership development at Suffield Academy, we have a program that each year provides partial merit scholarships to new students who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential and are likely to inspire leadership on the part of their peers. The criteria for selection include demonstrated leadership potential and a history of academic achievement. Leadership Scholars are chosen by the Admissions Committee at the time of acceptance and no further application is required.

Our Payment Options

Suffield has three tuition payment plans from which families may choose. While 10% of tuition is due at the time of registration, families have several options through which to pay the remaining 90% tuition balance:

List of 3 frequently asked questions.

  • + Traditional Payment Plan

The tuition balance is paid in two installments (July and December)
This plan is the one by which the Academy has traditionally operated. This plan enables the family to spread three payments out over the course of several months. A payment of 10% of tuition is due at the time of registration. The second payment, 50% of the tuition, is due by July 1; the remaining tuition, 40%, is due by December 1. Students who register after July 1 must pay both the deposit and the July 1 payment at the time of registration in order to take advantage of this plan.
  • + Monthly Plan

The tuition balance, plus a 1% premium, is paid in nine monthly installments (June through February)
Under the guidelines established for this plan, families pay their tuition in 10 installments. Families selecting this plan are assessed a premium of approximately 1% of the total cost of tuition. A payment of 10% of tuition is due at the time of registration; the remaining balance of tuition due is payable in nine monthly payments each due on the first of each month from June through February. Students who register after June 1 must become current at the time of registration in order to take advantage of this plan.
  • + Advance Payment Plan

The tuition balance is paid in July.
Under the guidelines established for this plan, families pay their tuition in full prior to July 1. Families selecting this plan may choose to not enroll in the Tuition Refund Insurance Plan (please refer to the enrollment contract). A payment of 10% of tuition is due at the time of registration; the remaining balance of the net tuition is due by July 1. Students who register after July 1, but before the start of the school year, must pay both the deposit and the July 1 payment at the time of registration in order to take advantage of this plan.
