Established in 2025 by Richard J. Zwirn, Class of 1967, in memory of his beloved sister, Diana G. Zwirn, who worked for and headed fundraising charitable divisions of a number of not-for-profit institutions, such as leading as the Director of Development with a staff of 34 members at Mt Sinai Medical Center in New York City. The funds are to be restricted to providing partial tuition for a male or female boarding student with preference in his or her junior or senior year. Preference will also be given to a student in good academic standing with an appreciation of sports, and with an aptitude and potential to accentuate the Suffield spirit for the student body as a whole.

Established in 2001 by the Talmadge family. The income is to be used for financial aid in support of a student with demonstrated financial need with and hopefully interest in track and field.

To provide private music lessons to a student and to honor the memory of Philip Wharton ’68.  The intent is to annually support instruction in composition or orchestration as well as private lessons on a musical instrument, or voice, for a student.

Given to the student with the highest overall average in history. The award winner must demonstrate great interest in history and consistent honors-level work. The faculty look for superior preparation, insight and thoroughness.           

This prize goes to that student who has made a truly  profound contribution to the performing arts at Suffield.

Awarded to that senior who best shows a sense of pride and loyalty to Suffield, spiced by a keen sense of humor.

This prize recognizes superior musical talent and dedication.

Goes to students who have distinguished themselves in the study of foreign language.  The prizes go to students who have mastered the language by working with dedication and integrity. They have shown a love of other cultures and languages, and they performed in the classroom at the highest level.

This prize is given for the best presentation at the Kent-Davis Speaking Competition.      

Goes to the outstanding mathematician(s) in the graduating class — brilliant math students, inventive thinkers who have done academic work at a consistently high level, demonstrated disciplined thinking and have recognized the inherent beauty of mathematics.

Recognizes Suffield student-athletes who show commitment, perseverance, and great pride in the school.

This prize honors maturity and sophistication in the study of religion and philosophy.

Honors excellence in computer science.

Given annually to that member of the Senior Class who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to team sports at Suffield. It honors team play and positive spirit.

Honors excellence in English composition.

Given for an original composition, presented eloquently and compellingly at the Kent-Davis Speaking Competition.

Honors the student who maintained the highest sustained average in English over the course of studies.

This prize is given to a student who displays excellent citizenship and consistently strong effort.

Recognizes a student who serves others by identifying an issue in the moral sphere and acting.

An endowed travel grant, awarded to a student, who after two years of French to the third level or beyond, has demonstrated outstanding effort, love of the French language and culture, and intellectual curiosity.

Awarded to the most deserving athletes in the senior class. Our recipients must have distinguished themselves through their commitment, excellence on the field, leadership and, above all, sportsmanship.

Goes to a student who has brought deep commitment and old-fashioned sweat equity to the Suffield community.

Honors the top scholar in the senior class, with scholarship understood here as rigorous inquiry, and demonstrated curiosity matched by impeccable work habits.             

Honors a student who personifies the ideal of the student-athlete.

Given to honor special contributions and accomplishments by members of the graduating class.  

Honors a postgraduate who exudes sincere enthusiasm and affection for Suffield, as well as commitment to all aspects of community life.

Goes to a student who has demonstrated a love of photography as well as superior artistic talent.

Recognizes a student who has demonstrated extraordinary artistic talent.                     

Recognizes students in years when genuine efforts to reduce energy use on campus have been taken. Not intended to be given annually.

Given to a graduating senior who has shown sustained, transformative growth intellectually, emotionally, and personally during their years as a Suffield student.              

Honors the best economics student. The winner has mastered economic principles and shown a genuine appreciation of the discipline.

Given to students with a passion for the environment.              

Goes to a student who has excelled in advanced courses and who brings deep curiosity and skills to the study of the universe.

Recognizes two members of the graduating class who have displayed noteworthy commitment to Suffield’s Leadership Program.

Honors a graduating student of color whose devotion to others is keenly expressed in their enthusiasm, joy, and leadership, and who helps make Suffield a kinder community

Cum Laude is the secondary school equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa and is given only to the very top students in the class—those students who have demonstrated the highest achievement in the most demanding courses at Suffield.

Established to honor the original spirit of Suffield’s Torch Society, which recognized students who help create, sustain, and extend good fellowship and positive school spirit throughout Suffield Academy. They embrace our emphasis on inclusion and encouragement.

Recognizes a senior in the top quarter of the class with an outstanding record in extracurricular activities.

The Hills family established an endowment fund to assist the Academic Support Program in honor of the memorable, important experiences that Calvin Hills ’58 and Cole Hills ’13 had at Suffield Academy. They wanted to help a school they love and ensure Suffield has programs and resources to inspire some talented students with atypical learning styles. These funds support the faculty and programs involved with Suffield’s Academic Support offerings.
