Hope all is well! No news on my end but I think it may be worthwhile for you to reach out to one of my classmates—Kerbasi Ugarte. His family owns and operates a hospital in the Philippines and were on the front lines as the official coronavirus center in Lapu Lapu City. He was part of the team that spearheads it. Hope all is well at Suffield.

I had a successful season as a player/coach in Austria. The team won its first championship since 1999. I hit .412 with 11 homeruns in the regular season and .370 with four homeruns in the playoffs, winning the silver slugger for the first base position. These are crazy times and I pray that all my Suffield Academy family is safe, happy, and healthy. These are scary times with my girlfriend being 28 weeks pregnant and we’re getting so close to the birth of our son. Baby Hendrix will be here very soon. It’s not the most ideal time to not be working but I am making it work the best I can. I am actually working at her family bodega in Harlem. It’s a humbling job but it’s also very uplifting being able to spend time with her family every day. My whole perspective on life has changed, where I need to work hard but also value personal time with my family. We all become very money hungry and we just want it all, which is a good thing but life is about balance. I think we all need to cherish each other more, visit each other more, limit text and actually pick up the phone and call each other. We are all guilty of waiting for tough times to reach out to one another. Make time to celebrate friendships and bonds during the good times on a more consistent basis. I’ve also started my quest to become a millionaire. I already am one mentally but now it’s time to do it physically. Also, I am in the works of becoming a dean of students or a teacher. I need to take a deeper dive into my community and uplift the children who are the future of my community. Suffield spoiled me and helped me learn and grow. I need the Bronx to become like Suffield—a fun, loving, encouraging, and nurturing place. I love you all. Peace and love.

Carly Smith
I have been teaching my 1st-graders from home. The “mute all” button on Zoom definitely comes in handy. It has been quite a transition to my new desk job but I am grateful that all of us are safe and still have the ability to connect. Just this week I taught my students how to write a friendly note to their teacher using Mr. Yates as an example. I think my students will tell you that their favorite videos from distance learning so far are my silly dance videos from my living room. I’ll leave it to you to find those on YouTube. I hope everyone in our Suffield family is staying safe and healthy, and finding some joy where they can during these challenging times. I started a new job at the beginning of 2020 in Salt Lake City as an Email Marketing & Automation Specialist for HealthEquity. Like many of us, I’ve been adjusting to working from home and finding new socially distanced hobbies. I recently pulled out my sewing machine to help make polypropylene masks for Project Protect here in Utah. I’ve sewn a hundred so far and hope to be able to make a few hundred more in the coming weeks. Sending much love to everyone!

I graduated from Bentley University with a B.S. in Marketing and Diversity & Society. I returned this fall to complete my master’s in Analytics. I have also started working for a commercial real estate development firm in Boston.

Aya Ishikawa
I’m doing well and so are my parents and my sister. I work at a research facility so I go there every once in a while to take care of some reactions, but other than that I stay home with my family and watch recorded lectures. This is my last semester in college and I can’t believe I’m almost done! The trees and the mountains here in Colorado are becoming greener and greener each day and I’m dying to go on a hike, but thankfully my parents’ place has a big yard so I go for a walk with my cat often. I’m not doing anything so cool as to fight COVID-19 on the front lines, but I donated some polymers to be used as resources in medical facilities since my research uses tons of them. I hope everyone in the world is staying safe and spending quality time with their family at home.

My family picked up our sweet mini golden doodle puppy named Maeve in July 2019. She loves visiting campus to cheer on Megan ’21 and the Suffield volleyball team!

Tim is doing well in London at the College of Charleston. He really loves London and is making the most of it with roommates from Denver, Minneapolis, and Virginia.
