Whether students are new to theater or veterans of the stage, our academic classes allow them to develop their technique and learn new skills. Students can focus on character development, improvisation, using their voice more effectively in speech, and honing their skills as actors.
Our extracurricular theater program is the place for students to apply what they learn in the classroom. Each year, Suffield presents two major theatrical productions, a musical and a play. The unique part of the Suffield theater program is that athletes can participate in the musical each year as rehearsals happen in the evening. This allows everyone the opportunity to be part of Suffield’s Performing Arts. We often see students on stage who are interested in trying something new and enhancing their high school resume by participating in the school musical. We also have a robust technical theater program. Our stage crew meets each term in the afternoon, creating sets, designing, and executing lighting and sound. We also have opportunities for students to be stage managers and designers.
The performing arts program is vital to the Suffield Academy experience. It provides students with a creative outlet, encourages them to grow as individuals, and offers them the opportunity to build confidence on stage. Tom Dugan, Chair, Performing Arts Department
