The squad braved the elements and took to the road for the season opener as we faced an always talented team from Eaglebrook. Our moderately experienced ladder was excited for the challenge but knew that it would be an uphill fight from the start. The top of the ladder fought valiantly, but Eaglebrook's experience, skill, and overall knowledge of the game proved too much, while the middle and bottom of our ladder came away with some close game scores. Despite the loss, spirits were high and the outlook is promising. A couple of days of practice will help us prepare for the home opener vs. Pomfret at 2:00 PM on Saturday.

In our first home match of the season, the squad came a away with a solid victory. Aided by 2 members of the varisty squad (Pomfret likes to play a continuous ladder... 1-7 score for varsity and 8-14 score for jv), the top 5 players secured the win. The viewing area was filled with friends and family to cheer on the exciting points as the 2 evenly teams faced off. There is work to be done, however there is a solid foundation on which a very successful season can be built. Though the bottom of the ladder did not have much success contributing to the team score, the game scores were close with 10 of the 22 games decided by 4 points or less, and 4 of the bottom six won games. The boys look to push themselves in the coming days of practice before traveling to Williston on Wednesday for a 2:00 PM start. Thanks again for all the support from the parents, grandparents, and friends that came out to cheer us on.

On the final game day before a well deserved vacation, the boys headed to Easthampton, MA to take on Williston in the first of 3 matches this year. In front of a heavily tilted home crowd, the even wave fared well. #2 Jack Carey dropped the first game 5-11, but battled back, winning the next 3 by the narrowest of margins to take the win. #4 Ollie Janson lost a tough back and forth 5 game match, while #6 Emmett Rose was kept off balance and was not able to take advantage of his strengths, ultimately falling in 3. #8 Eddie Flanagan found himself down 1-2, but he dug deep, took advantage of his opponents mistakes and swept the final 2 games to win 3-2. Down 1-2 heading into the odd wave, we had our work cut out for us. #1 Andrew Mack and #5 Jay Kim made quick work of their opponents using depth and smarts to each win 3-0. Up 3-2 in the match, both #3 Benji Kanbar and #7 Eric McCormick had opportunities but found victory just out of reach. #9 Seth Healy and #10 Dev Anand fought hard in there exhibition matches, while #11 Patrick Dugan and #12 Justin Xu made their interscholastic squash debuts. Despite the losses, they all remained upbeat and excited for future matches. Overall, it was a close and competitive match that displayed some excellent squash, both athletically and cerebrally. Thanks to the Dugan's and Mrs. Carey for making the trip to cheer us on! Our first match back in 2025 will see the Tigers take on the Wyverns of Kingswood-Oxford on January 11th at 3:00 PM.

It was an impressive showing today, as the boys hosted a solid team from Kingswood in the first match of the new calendar year. As the varsity hosted KO as well, we employed a continuous ladder... The 9 members of the varsity played and we added 5 members of our squad to round out the 14 total matches. With the continuous ladder, what amounted to our odd numbered matches started the day, followed by the evens. #1 Eric Choi, #3 Andrew Mack, and #7 Emmett Rose each swept their opponents, but they did not go down easily as 4 of the 9 games went to extra points. #5 Ollie Janson found himself in a 5 game battle in which all games were decided by 3 or fewer points. He dropped game one, but came back to take the next 2, before KO knotted it up. Game 5 was a back and forth affair, with Ollie coming away with a great win. The next flight made sure to keep the momentum and excitement going. #2 Beckett Santipietro also swept his opponent, while #4 Jack Carey won in 4, and #6 Jay Kim also went down to the wire in a 5 game marathon that he too claimed victory in. It was great to come away with the win and help set the tone for the new year. Next up is a rematch vs. Williston on Wednesday at 2:30 in Suffield. Thank as always to our loyal and dedicated fans!

It was an exciting and busy day down in the courts as we were the only squash match in town. This allowed for each team to play 13 matches, each best out of 5, and led to a great atmosphere as players and coaches were intently focused on what was happening on both sets of courts at one time. Despite being down 2 of our top 4 players in the ladder, the squad fought hard and played well. Suffield jumped out to an early lead as we won in 3 at #2 (Jack Carey) and #4 (Jay Kim), but couldn't quite keep the momentum going. #1 Andrew Mack won an exciting 5-game match. Finding himself down 1-2, he refocused his efforts and gave up only 5 points in the final 2 games to secure the comeback win. In exhibition play, #9 Seth Healy won in straight games, and #12 Dev Anand battled to a close 3-1 victory with all game being decided by 3 or fewer points. At #10, Arnick Eshtiaghi found himself down 0-2, but he dug deep to tie it 2 before losing a hard fought 5th game. It was obviously a close match, and we had opportunities to clinch the victory, but a few too many errors cost us. With 4 practices before our next match, the squad will look to improve placement and positioning to take advantage of any opponent's mistakes. Thanks again to our merry band of fans! The squad travels to take on St. Mark's School next Wednesday at 4:00 PM.

Despite the cold temps,, the squad took to the road to face a seasoned team from St. Mark's. Playing another continuous ladder match, the top 2 positions were filled with the bottom 2 players from varsity, allowing our usual ladder to bump down 2 spots. Despite the long ride to Southborough, MA. The squad warmed up well and took advantage of solid length and impressive width to control the pace of play. Overall, the group played well, and with the refereeing and scoring being done from a second story gallery, the team was able to see first-hand the importance of hitting the ball deep. The 2-foot difference in the length of a rail shot proved to be the difference between points and games won and lost. As we arrived, we learned that St. Mark's was unable to fill the #7 position for the JV team, so Emmett Rose got the win by default. He did play an exhibition match and battled well against the jv #5, but lost in 3 by a total of 6 points. Kyryl Popov earned his first interscholastic win with a solid performance, and Jack Carey, fresh off his challenge match victory yesterday won in convincing fashion. Thanks again to the merry band of Carey's who descended on the campus to cheer on both Suffield teams. Next match is at Salisbury on Saturday with a 2:30 PM start.
