The Tigers took the longest ride of the season for match #1 and ran into a top-heavy Trinity Pawling squad. The tigers were overmatched by the lions at the top of the ladder and could not manage a single game victory among the top five matches. The bottom of the ladder fared much better as the tigers won #s 6 & 7 as well as both exhibition matches at #s 8 & 9. Eric Choi ’27 won a five-game thriller at # 6 as did Ronan Sullivan ’26 at #8. #7 Soren Nelson ’26 and #9 Becket Santopietro ‘28 each cruised to straight game victories.
Had this been a nine-position college match, it would have been a nail-biter, but as a 7 man match the result was never in doubt. The tigers fought hard and will look to improve on he result when they host Pomfret on Saturday.

First, congratulations to Coach Edwards and the JV team on their 5-2 victory, especially Ronan Sullivan and Becket Santopietro who won at numbers 1 & 2 respectively.
It was a tough day for the tiger varsity as they never got on track. Pomfret was more consistent and Suffield lacked the necessary intensity to respond in kind on this day. Every member of the top seven fell 0-3.
The tigers have two more chances to notch a win before winter vacation, when they host Salisbury and Williston for a tri-match on Wednesday, Dec. 18th. They will try to right the ship then.
SA 1 Salisbury 6
SA 8 WNHS 0
The tigers notched their first win of the season in the second of their tri-match event today. It was a good send off to vacation.
Suffield had a tough start to the day falling 1- 6 to Salisbury, though the match was closer than the score. Aidan Ryder’26 posted the lone victory for the tigers with a thrilling five game win at #4. #5 Alan Suarez’ 25 and #7 Ronan Sullivan ’26 each fought valiantly before falling in five games, while #6 Soren Nelson ’26 and # 3 Alex Suarez ’26 each earned a game before falling in four.

#8 Beckett Santopietro’28 L 0-3 4-11, 10-12, 11-13
The close losses in match one seemed to light a fire under the team for the Williston match and they played much better, establishing better length in the court, demonstrating more patience in long points, showing more determination when retrieving, and using more strategic aggression when attacking. These improvements resulted in a lopsided score in Suffield’s favor though, like the Salisbury match, the team score did not reflect the true closeness of the contest.
#2 EJ Lee ‘26 and #3 Alex Suarez ’26 proved their grit in thrilling five game victories and #1 Austin Rappaport ’25 began to play to his abilities in a dominant win. #4 Aidan Ryder ’26 was undefeated on the day While Ronan Sullivan ’26 earned his first top 7 win.

Special thanks to Mrs. Sullivan, Mrs. Rappaport, Mr. Carrol, and the girls’ squash team for their support.
The team stands at 1-3 entering winter break and hopes to return healthy and continue their winning ways. Happy holidays everyone and have a great vacation!
Congratulations to the B JV squash squad and Mr. Edwards for their sweep of KP this afternoon!
The varsity team was not as fortunate. Though they competed very well, led by EJ Lee’s tremendous effort at #2 against daunting odds, the tigers fell to the Wyverns 1-6.
#5 Soren Nelson ’26 earned the lone victory (3-1) among the top 7, thus securing his new ladder position which he had won through two challenge victories earlier in the week. #4 Aidan Ryder ’26 pushed his opponent to four games before falling. Several other games throughout the matches were decided by three points or fewer. Alas, none of them fell the in favor of the black and orange. Eric Choi ’28 won 3-0 at the #8 position, which was counted as the first JV position today. The final results were:
#1 Austin Rappaport ’25 L 0-3 6, 6, 8 -11
#2 EJ Lee ’26 L 0-3 3, 6, 8 - 11
#3 Alex Suarez ’26 L 0-3 8-11, 11-13, 6-11

#6 Alan Suarez ’25 L 0-3 6, 8, 7 - 11
#7 Ronan Sullivan ’26 L 0-3 8, 6, 8 - 11
#8 Eric Choi ’28 W 3-0 11-8, 13-11, 11-7
The team hopes to return to the win column on Wednesday when they travel to Williston.
The tigers traveled north with the 3rds basketball squad to take on an improved WNHS team on a special day for their school. Williston came out motivated and took two of the three even matches, serving notice that today was going to be different than Suffield’s 6-1 win in December. Only #4 Aidan Ryder ’26 was able to secure a win among the top 7 players in the first round. (#8 Ronan Sullivan ’26 did earn a strong 3-0 victory in the exhibition contest).
When the odd matches took the floor, the tigers needed to win three of the four contests to take the match. Things soon got more tense as the #1 and #3 matches were knotted at one game each and Williston had a 2-1 lead in match #5. Only Eric Choi ’28 had a solid 2-0 lead at #7. The match swung on the third game at numbers 1 and 3. #1 Austin Rappaport refocused, limited his errors, and rolled to a 11-5 win in his pivotal third game while #3 Alex Suarez fought back to earn his second tie-break game win 12-10. While these matches were swinging in Suffield’s favor, #5 Soren Nelson ’26 rebounded to knot his match at 2-2 while Eric Choi ’28 closed out his #7 win in four games.
The team match was now tied 2-2 with each side needing to claim two of the remaining three matches to secure the victory. All three matches ended within moments of each other and they all went in favor of the black and orange. Soren Nelson ’26 wore down his opponent with long points and consistent length of the course of five games and cruised to a 11-2 win in the decisive fifth game at #5 to win 3-2. Moments later #1 Austin Rappaport ’25 won a close fourth game 11-9 while #3 Alex Suarez ’26 won his fourth 11-7 as each earned 3-1 wins. The final match score was a 5-2 win for the tigers, though it seemed much closer than the final result.
There were 16 games decided by 3 or fewer points through the matches and Suffield went 10-6 in these close games (7-6 in the top seven positions as Ronan Sullivan ’26 won all three of his games by 2 or 3 points). This slightest of edges in close games, in addition to Soren Nelson’s comeback at #5, was the difference in the match. The team stands at 2 – 4 and travels to meet a strong Berkshire team on Saturday.

Team Overview
The Suffield boys’ squash program has built a strong tradition over the last quarter century. Though the Tigers are among the newer members of the New England Prep squash landscape, they have performed admirably during this brief history. The team has qualified for the “A” tournament twice [2006 & 2015-16], finished second in the “B” tournament three times [2007, 2008, & 2019], and won the “C” tournament [2012], “D” tournament [2024], and “E” tournament [2023].
The Suffield boys’ varsity squash team competes against many of the strongest programs in western New England. The Tigers are always looking for the most challenging opponents they can find. and have notched team victories over perennial powers, Loomis Chaffee, Avon, Salisbury, and Westminster in recent memory. Suffield squash alumni have played competitively at the college level for Cornell, Dartmouth, St. Lawrence, George Washington, Bates, Colby, and F&M, and are currently competing for Dickinson and the University of Rochester.
The 2024-25 team looks to build on the end of season successes the program has enjoyed over the past two seasons. Having won the NEISRA E tournament in 2023 with an entirely novice team, the squad earned promotion to the D division last season and won that tournament from the #7 seed. The tigers then entered the US High School Nationals in Division V and finished 6th after entering as the 10th seed. The players have demonstrated the ability to improve considerably over the course of a season and have proven they can rise to the moment in big spots. In addition to six members returning from last year’s much improved squad, the team is hoping for added depth from promoted JV players and new recruits. With this combination of seasoned, battle-tested veterans combined with new talented and enthusiastic players, the team hopes to continue climbing the ladder of western New England squash.
