All eyes then turned to the #1 match where captain Brady Holmes was down 0-2. He rallied to win the third game convincingly 11-5 and the tide turned. Brady gained momentum as his opponent tired, and he won the fourth 11-3. The deciding game was a seesaw affair until 6 all, then Brady’s length and conditioning took over. He forced two errors from his adversary sandwiched by two deft drops by Brady. The TP player fought off one match point before Brady sealed his comeback with a backhand boast the TP play was too tired to run down.
It was a good start to the season and a rewarding result for the long trip. Pomfret will be a much steeper test at the home opener on Saturday. Thanks to the Riegels who made the long trip to support the team.

Team Captain Brady Holmes ’24 used consistent length, errorless play, and deft dropshots to defeat his opponent routinely 11-5, 11-1, 11-3. Austin Rappaport ’25 offered a bit more excitement at #2 as he won in four very tight games 11-13, 11-5, 13-11, 14-12. Not to be outdone, #3 Charlie Riegel ’24 continued his winning streak after just two + weeks of formal squash training with the most exciting match of the day. He won the first two games 14-12, 11-6. Team Overview
The goal of the program is to be as competitive as possible while supporting anyone who wants to play across all ability levels. Students who play varsity upon entering Suffield usually have prior squash experience, though talented tennis players have been able to successfully transition to the game at the varsity level.
The team strives for the best record against the best competition while upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship and respectful competition. The JV team stresses the fundamental skills of the game as well as the lifelong nature and lessons of the sport such as sportsmanship, fitness, and competitive camaraderie. The most experienced and seasoned JV players often make the jump to the varsity squad after a few seasons of training.
The Suffield boys’ squash program has built a strong tradition in just two decades. During this brief history, the team has qualified for the “A” tournament twice [2006 & 2015-16], finished second in the “B” tournament three times [2007, 2008, & 2019], and won the “C” tournament [2012]. The Suffield boys’ varsity squash team competes against many of the strongest programs in western New England, including Loomis Chaffee, Berkshire, Avon Old Farms, and Salisbury. The Tigers are always looking for the most challenging opponents they can find. Though the Tigers are among the newer members of the New England Prep squash landscape, they have performed admirably since arriving and have notched team victories over perennial powers Deerfield, Loomis Chaffee, Hotchkiss, Avon, Salisbury, and Westminster among others, in recent years. Some recent Suffield squash alumni have played competitively at the college level. Suffield players have competed for Cornell, Dartmouth, St. Lawrence, George Washington, Bates, Colby, and F&M, as well as other college programs, and a few have gone on to coach at the college and club levels after graduating from Suffield Academy.
