A beautiful day saw the Tigers travel to Westy for what was supposed to be a Tri-meet with Westy, Suffield, and Cheshire, but after Cheshire no-showed, it turned into a dual meet between the Tigers and the Martlet’s.
On the boys’ side we won first place in 13 out of the 16 events, and swept 1, 2, 3 in nine of the events leading to a 107 to 26 Victory for the Tigers. Highlights of the day included:
-Kayden Bennett 1st place Shot put with a throw of 50'1
-Jason Hall 1st place finishes in the Discus [141'4] and the 100 m [10.85]. Hall also anchored the winning 4x100 Team [Gardner, Toppin, Marzouca, Hall]
-Michael McCormack 1st place Javelin 118'10
-Nate Morin and Ronan Sullivan going 1, 2 in the 3000 m
-The Morrin Brothers [Nate and Noah] sweeping the 800
-Jaiden Johnson continuing his winning ways from last season, with a 1st place finish in the High Jump and Triple Jump
On the girls’ side, the Tigers were bested by the Martlets 83-48, but there was lots of promise. Highlights of the day included:
-Newcomer Ava Butterfield won the 1500 and placed second in the 800.
-Meghan Bauer placed 3rd in the Long Jump
-Melissa Smith placed 2nd in the Long Jump and 2nd in the High Jump
-Maeve Curtin went to battle with the reigning NE Champion in the 300 Hurdles where she fell just short for a hard fought 2nd place
-Keyvanna Bennett continued her undefeated streak in the Shot Put besting the field by over 17 ft
Overall, I am very proud of both teams’ efforts today! Looking forward to hosting our first meet next Wednesday when we go to battle with the Bears of Berkshire and the Rams of Watkinson.

Overview
The track and field team welcomes any member of the Suffield Community who wants to work hard and be a part of a fun and supportive team.
A variety of event options is open to athletes with any level and interest. Building on a history of success, expectations of team members are high but the supportive, competitive environment helps athletes achieve personal bests they never thought possible.
Over the last few years, several Suffield Academy track and field athletes have gone on to compete at colleges such as Bates College, Brown University, Wesleyan University, Saint Lawrence University, Bryant College, and UMass-Amherst. Dan Beaudette ’98 holds sprint records at Wesleyan. Eric Hoagland ’03 was a three-time Atlantic 10 Conference champion (outdoor long jump, indoor long jump, and indoor triple jump) for UMass-Amherst during the 2006-2007 seasons. Joe Pugliano ’09 is a member of the school record holding 1600 meter relay at Bryant College. Brie Beaudette ’07 made her mark as a long sprinter for Brown University, Allison Leonard ’06 completed an outstanding career as a distance runner at Bates, and Cherelle Allen ’08 finished in 11th place in the long jump at the 2009 Division III national championships for Springfield College.
