Team Overview
The concept of “TEAM”—Together Everyone Achieves More—is an essential piece to Suffield wrestling. An individual's success is directly related to the hard work and commitment they exhibit.
Our program is dedicated to encouraging each student athlete to contribute to the best of their ability while working toward the goals of the entire team. Suffield Academy Wrestling is a small, yet competitive, program that competes in the NEPSAC division. Our goal is to work hard to compete hard. This methodology has produced several homegrown athletes who have become nationally ranked prep wrestlers, recruited athletes, and are strong members of the Suffield Academy community.
History
Suffield Wrestling is rich with tradition and history. The program has excelled at producing both individual and team champions. Suffield wrestling has produced 4 Prep National champions, 18 New England champions, 72 WNEISWA champions, and 12 WNEISWA league team titles. The last two years have particularly brought a great deal of success, as the team has twice finished in the top three in WNEISWA, including a 2011 title and a new program record for wins in 2012. Yet our program’s greatest success is our students understanding of the value of hard work and the concept of a team. We welcome all to join us—both experienced wrestlers and those interested in trying the sport for the first time. The team faces a diverse schedule that includes teams from our conference (Western New England Independent Schools Wrestling Association - WNEISWA), the Independent School League (ISL), and several schools with larger enrollments. The team annually competes in approximately 20 dual meets, 2 invitational tournaments, the WNEISWA Championships, the New England Prep School Championships, and the National Prep School Championships at Lehigh University.
Our facilities include a dedicated wrestling room with two full mats, a terrific fitness center that includes free weights, nautilus machines, a cardio room, and a newly renovated locker room.
