Kent-Davis Speaking Competition

Kent-Davis Speaking Competition

A time-honored Suffield Academy tradition continued with the annual Kent-Davis Speaking Competition on May 18. The contest inaugurated Suffield’s virtual senior week and showcased excellent oratory skills. Five seniors delivered speeches in two categories: the Emmet Kent Public Speaking Prize and the Charles G. Davis Oratory Prize. The Emmett Kent Public Speaking Prize is awarded to a student who presents an original speech in three minutes or less, and the Charles G. Davis Oratory Prize is awarded to a student who presents an adaptation of an original piece of writing, authored by someone other than the writer. This year's Kent contestant was Sophia Shay from Southborough, Massachusetts. This year’s Davis speakers were Jiahan Peter Jiang (Changzhou, China), Michaela Domino (New Canaan, Connecticut), Sohi Shah (Suffield, Connecticut), and Anuoluwapo Darmaloa (Bronx, New York).

The winners will be announced at Suffield Academy’s 187th Commencement held virtually on May 22.
