2023 Art and Literary Magazine

The theme of Suffield Academy’s 2022-2023 Art & Literary Magazine is “Explore” and it is now available online. This is the eighth publication of the student-curated work and features the creative output of talented Suffield artists and writers. The magazine editors included: Natalie Datz '23, Ellie Frisbie '23, Nate Morrin '23, Cindy Tsai '23, Stacy Yurkovskaya '23, Navraj Toor '24, Greyson Trubia '24, Campbell Hudkins '25

Visual Arts Department Chair Jenny Graham envisioned the magazine, which was first published by her Graphic Design class in the spring of 2016. Jenny introduced the course in 2015 as an advanced level class aimed at teaching effective communication strategies utilizing graphic layouts and principles of design: contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity. Students learn the industry-standard programs including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop while examining topics such as logo design and development, brand identity and representation, typography, mixed media poster design, and print layout and design. Jenny said, “This year the graphic design class highlighted the theme of Exploration. Art gives us the ability to explore our inner voice and express ourselves universally. Our class wanted this year's design to feel playful and expressive; demonstrating the power the arts can have to tap into our limitless imaginations. The diversity of work seen in this year’s magazine is a beautiful example of this and we are extremely proud of it all.”
