Ebrahim Adib-Samii

Ebrahim Adib-Samii passed away on March 26 peacefully at home in Marco Island, Florida. He was 89 years old. Abe was a legendary Suffield faculty member, serving a variety of roles between 1967 and 2003 including Math Department Chair for 18 years and Director of Studies.

Abe coached soccer and tennis, authored a precalculus textbook, and taught advanced math courses at Wesleyan University. Abe lived in Florida since his retirement, where his wife Amparo still resides. As you know, Amparo is also a Suffield legend, serving on the faculty from 1967 to 2004. Upon their retirement from Suffield, Samii Dormitory was named in honor of Abe and Amparo.

The Samii family’s connection to Suffield run deep. Abe is survived by his daughter, Elise Adib-Samii Riegel ’87 who served on Suffield’s faculty as an academic dean and dean of faculty from 1998 to 2009; his son, Julio Adib-Samii; son-in-law, Phil Riegel ’87; grandchildren Vivian Riegel ’20, Charlie Riegel ’24, Alejandro Adib-Samii, and Luca Adib-Samii; and nearly a dozen nieces and nephews who are Suffield alumni.

A memorial service will be held on June 15 at 2:00 pm at the Second Baptist Church in Suffield with a reception to follow at the Gay Manse on campus. In lieu of flowers, Amparo asks that gifts be made to Suffield Academy in Abe’s memory.
