Electro-Contest Fall ’22

Electro-Contest Fall ’22

Suffield Academy’s boarding students participated in a campus-wide Electro-Contest from October 3–10. This was the first weeklong contest in the current academic year aimed at highlighting and reducing the community’s energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Stacy Yurkovskaya ’23 recorded initial baseline weekly energy use by dorm and then re-recorded it after the contest. The top three finishers will receive prizes ranging from a dorm food party, a day off dress code, or choosing the dining hall menu for three meals. Barnes House earned first place, saving 26.7% of their initial weekly electricity usage, while Tompkins Dorm was second with a 23.9% reduction and Nathena Fuller House was third at 14.3%. Overall, there was a 10% reduction in energy use across all the dorms.
