February Flurry Surprise

February Flurry Surprise

To celebrate reaching 100 donors supporting Suffield’s February Flurry Annual Fund campaign, Suffield Academy students were surprised with donuts, candy, and drinks in the Landis Student Union on Valentine’s Day morning. February Flurry aims to generate 400 gifts so the school can reach 1833 total donors in the current academic year. A group of 20 students in the Classes of 2022 and 2023 are helping by making calls and being in social media posts. In recognition of their support, each week that 100 or more donations are made to the Annual Fund the student body will earn fun rewards. At this week’s chapel, Head of School Charlie Cahn shared that the 200 donor mark has now been reached and students will have spirit dress code on Thursday. He said development office members are working with the students involved to plan creative perks if the 300 and 400 donor marks are achieved. Mr. Cahn also spoke about why Suffield looks to the extended community of alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for annual support. He noted that despite the significant tuition at independent schools, the Annual Fund helps fill a gap between tuition and annual operating costs. At Suffield the gap exists largely because of the school’s extensive commitment to financial aid, which makes Suffield experiences possible for students who may not otherwise be able to attend. Mr. Cahn said, “This commitment makes our community stronger and better for all of us, but it requires resources beyond tuition.” He also noted that Suffield’s historical levels of alumni, parent, and faculty participation in the Annual Fund are among the highest of independent schools in the country and symbolic of community pride and strength. We look forward to seeing continued participation during the final two weeks of our student-driven February Flurry campaign, and especially thank our student volunteers for their involvement in the effort.
