After 14 seasons Drew Gamere ’93 has decided to step down as Suffield Academy’s head football coach and focus on his roles as varsity men’s basketball head coach, co-director of athletics, and teacher in Suffield’s Leadership Program.

Faculty member Chris Setian, a 2009 Suffield graduate who went on to play football at University of New Hampshire, has been named Suffield’s head football coach. Chris coached at Brown, Yale, and UNH before returning to Suffield as a faculty member and coach in 2021.

In Drew Gamere’s tenure as Suffield’s head coach the Tigers won an incredible seven New England Championship bowl games and had an overall record of 99-25. Drew is very proud of all the student-athletes he has coached. Many went on to play college football at schools including Arkansas, Bentley, Boston College, Brown, Clemson, Colby, Connecticut, Dickinson, Elon, Endicott, Fordham, Georgetown, Hobart, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Massachusetts, Merrimack, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, New Hampshire, Ohio Wesleyan, Penn, Penn State, Pomona Pitzer, Rhode Island, Richmond, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, Stonehill, Stony Brook, Syracuse, Trinity, Union, Wesleyan, and Williams.

Drew said, “I am very passionate about Suffield Academy as a school and community. I’m thankful for the many young men I had the good fortune of coaching in football and the dedicated staff I worked with in leading the team. I am also pleased that Chris will lead the program into the future. He loves Suffield and is well prepared to ensure the team’s continued success.”

Chris Setian commented, “It is an honor to succeed Drew as head football coach at a school that is so important to me. Everything is in place at Suffield for our program to continue to excel. I am excited about all that lies ahead for our players and coaches.”
