Two of Suffield’s elite-level swimmers competed in the Junior Nationals East, the most prestigious and competitive meet for swimmers 18 years old or younger. Rigid time standards determine qualification for the meet. This year’s meet was held on December 8-11 in Greensboro, North Carolina at one of the state’s premiere swim facilities.
Will Kainen [White River Junction, Vermont], a senior captain of this year’s Tiger squad, competed in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events. In the 200 breast, Kainen was able to swim a lifetime best of 2:04.87.
Sophomore Mackenzie Headley [Windsor, Connecticut] starred at the meet, finishing runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.87) and winning consolation finals in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events (22.64; 49.22). All of her swims would be New England Prep records had they been swum in interscholastic competition.
The Tiger swimmers look forward to their first in-person meet in two years in a home opener versus Choate on Wednesday, December 15 (3:00 pm).
