Campbell Hudkins ’25 competed in the 2022 Dover Saddlery/USEF Hunter Seat Medal Final with her horse, Touch Down Z. The Pennsylvania National Horse Show hosts more than 1,200 of the best hunter, jumper, and equitation horses and riders from across the nation in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. There were 233 riders this year and Campbell was the youngest to ribbon, finishing 10th overall.
Known as “The Medal,” the final event attracts riders from all over the country under the age of eighteen. In order to qualify riders must earn a certain number of points jumping at the 3’6” height in United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) rated shows throughout the year.
Campbell said, “It was only my second time competing at Medal Finals and my horse’s first. His nickname is Tommy, after one of the greatest quarterbacks ever. He is only eight years old and yesterday was his first time competing in any equitation final. I have only been riding him since mid-June and we have really gelled together.” She also added, “It was very exciting to hear the commentators mention Suffield Academy during my round!”
