Performing in In the Heights was a wonderful experience. Being that I am from Washington Heights, being able to represent my home, my culture, and my people was so exhilarating. Representing the Dominican Republic flag was an honor. This show has such meaningful messages that are displayed in such beautiful ways, and I wanted to make sure we represented that well. Being a part of In the Heights has been such an honor. The cast and crew quickly became like family, and we all cared so much about making this musical a magical experience. I found so much of myself in my character, Vanessa, through her determination and fierceness, and I am so grateful I had a chance to play such an amazing role. I’ll never forget the endless laughter, long nights, and scarfing down food like McDonald’s or pizza Mr. Dugan got for us. Mari McCarthy ’26
