Students in faculty member Fiona Carey's French IV pursued an engaging class project after reading Le Petit Prince, the classic and beloved novel in France and around the world written by author Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The story follows a young prince who visits seven different planets addressing various themes including friendship, loneliness, love, and imagination. On each planet the prince meets a grande personne (an adult) whose unique characteristics teach the reader a lesson. Students set about creating the eighth planet for the prince to visit. Groups collaborated to imagine and design a planet, create the characters who live there, and formulate the lesson or moral that will be taught there. Once the planets were conceived students wrote a new chapter for the book and built 3D models of their newly formed planet. It was a creative project that brought the story to life.
