Leadership Day

Leadership Day

It was a beautiful day to provide students at each grade level with their own experiential education challenges. There were smiles all around as students got outdoors and expanded their comfort zones.

Suffield Academy is proud of its unique four-year Leadership Program focused on helping develop people with integrity who want to make a significant and positive impact on society. Each fall students at all grade levels participate in events emphasizing leadership qualities and capabilities.

In 2023 these events all occurred on September 14. Faculty members Josh Hillman and Liz Warren accompanied ninth graders through Suffield Academy’s ropes course and balance barn; Gina Longo and Kathleen McNary Pillsbury were captains for sophomores as they navigated a campus-wide Grit 'N Wit [Building Grit and Compassion] obstacle course and helped with mini community service projects; Kelli Tosone and Amy Randall led juniors on their zipline excursion at Storrs Adventure Park; and Greg Lynch and Ann Selvitelli helped guide the senior class white water rafting at Crab Apple Whitewater.

Director of College Counseling & Leadership Ann Selvitelli and Director of SOLO Josh Hillman organized the day’s many logistics. Ann said, “We were thrilled to have an entire day during the first week of school dedicated to unique milestone events. Students in each grade embarked on outdoor adventures that align with the Leadership Program curriculum. The bright blue skies illuminated the energy and enthusiasm of our wonderful Suffield students.” Josh agreed, “It was a beautiful day to provide students at each grade level with their own experiential education challenges. There were smiles all around as students got outdoors and expanded their comfort zones.”
