Musical Compositions in Spanish V

Spanish V Honors students embarked on a journey through folklore and myth as they learned about some of the most captivating legends from Latin America. From the haunting tale of La Llorona to the mischievous antics of El Sombrerón, each story they read was unique. Students immersed themselves in research and explored the details of each legend by reading stories, watching movies or short videos, or listening to audio recordings.

During the research phase, Mrs. Nahmens came across SUNO, an AI tool designed to generate music based on inputted criteria—and this inspired a new class project. Using the legend of El Silbón, a malevolent spirit from Venezuelan folklore, the class used SUNO to bring the legend to life in a new and innovative way. Using their knowledge of El Silbón and a selection of key words and characteristics about the legend, they began crafting their own musical compositions. From a haunting waltz to upbeat folk tunes, each student poured their creativity into shaping a unique interpretation of the legend. The results were amazing as each song offered a fresh perspective on the age-old legend.

Students not only brought a legend to life but also forged a deeper connection to the rich cultural heritage of Latin America. This project inspired students to take advantage of the power of technology to enhance storytelling, explore new avenues of creativity, and learn valuable skills for the future.
