This week at Suffield, ninth and eleventh grade students participated in two college-oriented events as part of Suffield’s four-year college counseling and Leadership programs.
On April 12, juniors attended the HAISSCCA (Hartford Area Independent Secondary School College Counselors Association) College Fair at Avon Old Farms School, an annual spring event. The fair is a collaboration between seven Hartford-area schools. This one was especially exciting since it was first fair in three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One hundred and fifty college representatives attended from different colleges and universities, providing students with a great opportunity to learn about various schools and interact with the people who will be reading their applications.
The freshman event, a capstone for their year, was an April 14 visit to Trinity College. Trinity tour guides showed Suffield students around campus and then participated in an information session where they spoke to the ways college differs from high school. This year, students were joined by three 2018 Suffield alums who are currently seniors at Trinity: Bailey Hyland, India Shay, and Alina Ryan. They talked to the freshmen about how Suffield prepared them for college, how to get the most out of their time at Suffield, how to prepare for the college search process, and what the transition to college was like.
