Spring Training

Spring Training

Ahead of the 2024 spring season, three teams participated in pre-season programs during March break. The baseball and softball teams went south to programs in Florida and the girls' lacrosse held their spring training on Suffield's campus.

The baseball team practiced at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida. Coach Bryan Brissette shared "Like all spring trips in the past, our time in Florida was a chance for the players to bond and work towards building a team mentality. With several new players in the program each year, this is a vital component of preparing for success on the diamond. This year's group of student-athletes came together quickly both on and off the field." The team scrimmaged Groton School, Beaver Country Day, and Brunswick School.

Suffield’s softball team spent the last week of spring break in Orlando, Florida preparing for the upcoming season. This was the Tigers tenth visit to the area in the last twelve years. Suffield faced off in scrimmages against WNEPSSA foe Greens Farm Academy and two larger public schools from Pennsylvania (Elizabeth Forward) and New Jersey (Vineland). Coach Patrick Booth noted "The week was productive for the squad as senior co-captains Reeghan McCarthy '24 and Gianna Strange '24 began to help mold this team. Returning Junior hurler Kyla Brogan '25 was stellar in the circle and was joined by newcomer Caroline Martorielli '27 to form the Tiger battery all week. Fellow returning players Maeve Selvitielli '25, Adrianna Bailey-Stewart '26, and Lauren Dobler '25 were all critical in making the games and trip successful with clutch defense and timely hitting.  The squad was rounded out by a terrific group of incoming players that includes Sophie Kaplan '26, Alana Clarke '26, Sammi Santacroce '26, Diana Baffor '25, and Micky Kridlova '25."

The girls’ lacrosse program hosted spring training on campus for practices, a scrimmage, and a play-day. The team traveled to UCONN to watch the womens’ lacrosse team versus Columbia University, enjoyed team dinners together, and participated in fun off-campus activities including bowling and laser tag. In addition to practices, the team utilized the Hillary Cahn '88 Balance Barn, scrimmaged the Ledyard girls’ lacrosse team on Shay Field, and played local teams during a play-day at Agawam High School. Coach Ang Vecchiarelli shared “With the help of Molly Vianney and Melina Lopez, it was a very successful pre-season which prepared our players for the 2024 season.”
