Phase 2 Athletics

Suffield’s fall athletics programming continued with the launch of Phase 2 on September 28. Teams are allowed a 25-player maximum emphasizing social distancing with minimal physical contact, constant equipment sanitation, and required mask wearing.

Because its varsity teams regularly earn or compete for league and New England championships, Suffield Academy has a long and storied athletic tradition. Believing that sports build self-confidence and strengthen character, participating in school athletics promotes physical health and wellbeing, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship. With the additional offerings of out-of-season sports including swimming, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, tennis, softball, and crew the hybrid-style programming aims to prepare all its student-athletes for interscholastic competition.

Co-athletic Director Drew Gamere ’93 commented on the positive attitude and perseverance he’s seen displayed by Suffield’s Tiger athletes: “It has been great seeing our students back on our athletic fields. The energy and enthusiasm from our athletes and coaches has been inspiring. Our fall model has allowed students to participate in a wide range of sports in a safe, structured environment. We are hopeful that this leads to the return of interscholastic play later this fall.”
