Visual Arts Field Trip

Visual Arts Field Trip

On Friday October 27, Suffield photography students were able to revive the annual Northampton street photography field trip. The trip has been on pause since 2020 and students were excited to get the opportunity to explore this eclectic and unique town and capture it all on both black and white and color film. In preparing for the trip, students researched street and documentary photographers and discussed the ethics of street photography and how to approach and ask permission for taking portraiture in a public place. Art Department Chair Jenny Graham said, “In addition to shooting 35mm film photography, our classes visited the Smith College Art Muesum to see their current exhibit Multiplying Power: Image as Protest in Prints and Photographs, as well as their impressive permanent collections of art. Overall, it was a beautiful fall day, and everyone was eager to return and begin processing and printing their film!”
