The Final Fifty

The Final Fifty

The Class of 2026 celebrated 50th Night on April 2. One of Suffield’s great traditions, 50th Night offers a time to reflect on and appreciate the remarkable journeys of graduating seniors as they approach their final weeks before Commencement.

Head of School Charlie Cahn welcomed seniors and faculty and introduced senior class co-president Declan Lynam ’26 and co-class advisor Kathleen Pillsbury. Declan delivered an inspiring message, urging his classmates to embrace the present and make the most of their final days at Suffield. “Soon enough, this will all be something we look back on. So the challenge for all of us is simple: don’t rush through it. Be here. Be intentional. Make the most of the moments we still have. Finish strong—not just in the classroom or on the field, but as a community.” Mrs. Pillsbury encouraged seniors to make the most of their final fifty days by focusing on connection, kindness, and authenticity. She challenged them to step outside their comfort zones, reach out to classmates, and strengthen relationships across the community. Rather than simply completing the final stretch of high school, she urged them to actively shape how they will be remembered. She concluded by reminding the class that while there is no scripted ending, they have the opportunity to write their own: “You get to write the ending yourselves. Fifty days to choose curiosity, fifty days to choose connection. Fifty days to make sure the story you leave behind here at Suffield reflects the very best of who you are. And long after you leave this campus, the impact you made here will continue to grow—in the people whose lives you touched, in the friendships you built, and in the example you set.”

Following dinner, Mr. Cahn spoke about Suffield Academy’s evolution and reflected on key moments in the school’s 193-year history. He posed a question to the Class of 2026: what lessons from the Suffield story will you carry forward into your own lives? “We know that as aspects of the world evolve, we will not waver from our core emphasis on kindness, respect, effort, and leadership. And we know that strong leadership requires positive spirit and energy. It is about inspiring others to work hard, support shared goals, and make the greater good a priority. Suffield is thriving because our value proposition is clear and compelling. And you will soon find that Suffield is for life. You are all part of our school’s fascinating history, and soon you will join about 8,000 Suffield alumni around the world. You will meet them, I promise, in interesting places and at moments you never expect.”

50th Night was a special evening, kicking off Suffield’s march toward Commencement on May 22.
