Suffield’s Solar Array

Suffield’s Solar Array

A second phase of the solar energy project is nearly complete. The extensive panels have been installed on the west side of campus beyond Muddy Brook. The first phase connects directly to the Tisch Field House. Phase 2 became extra appealing due to state and federal incentives. Specifically, the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act allowed nonprofits to receive direct payments from the government for tax credit incentives related to projects like this. In addition, the State of Connecticut instituted a modified net metering and tariff program that allows Suffield Academy to connect to the nearest point on the electrical grid. The new array—funded by gifts and this tax credit—will connect to the grid off Hill Street. It furthers Suffield’s commitment to environmental responsibility and diversifying the school’s energy sources.
