Celebrating Nineteen Seasons

Celebrating Nineteen Seasons

Suffield Academy surprised long-time faculty member Wayne Patterson by naming a new video board in Kinne Court in his honor. While Wayne will continue serving in his role of Co-Director of Athletics, this will be his final season as head coach of the girls’ varsity basketball team. Wayne has led the squad for 19 seasons highlighted by 16 NEPSAC tournament appearances, four semifinal berths, and a New England championship in 2008. Coach Patterson earned his 400th career win on Saturday, February 21 against Westminster School. This season’s team heads into tournament play against Berkshire on March 4. Beyond the victories, Coach Patterson’s love of the game, dedication to players, and pride in Suffield have always been clear to the community. Trustee Jared Carillo ’00, P’28, ’30 spoke at the dedication following a video presentation coordinated by faculty member Ang Vecchiarelli ’16. Current assistant coach Mike Welsh will succeed Wayne as Suffield’s head coach next season.
