Mean Girls: The Musical

Mean Girls: The Musical

Suffield Academy’s Performing Arts department put on three incredible nights of Mean Girls: The Musical on December 7, 8, and 9. Highlighted by incredible singing performances, hilarious dialogue, set pieces that brought the plot to life, and moments that viewers will remember from the original movie, the audiences were captivated from the very first scene. More than 40 students and faculty members were involved with the production directed by Tom Dugan.

Senior Dom Balise said, “Mean Girls was most definitely the highlight of my high school career. While the work towards the performance was hefty, I am so happy I was a part of the show. Nothing can beat the feeling of doing what you love in front of 200+ people and hearing thunderous applause and (afterwards) getting compliments on how much people enjoyed it. I am so thankful I got to take on the role of flamboyant and sassy Damian Hubbard, and I am thrilled with how the whole show turned out.”

Freshman Arhenis Salcedo enthusiastically said, “As a freshman and being new to the idea of performing arts, it was cool to start my journey at Suffield Academy with a banger by participating in Mean Girls: The Musical.”

Senior Shea Braceland said, “My experience in Mean Girls was like no other musical I have done before. The cast was so supportive and felt like a family. My character, Regina George, was a challenging character to get into because of how different she is from me as a person. Being mean to people I have so much respect for was so hard for me. This is truly an experience that I will never forget, and I am so glad I got to do it along some of my best friends. Overall, this was such a great thing to be a part of my senior year.”

Senior Leelee Sammis said, “Being in Mean Girls was an experience I will never forget. Taking on a lead in a musical for the first time was daunting at the start, but playing the part of Karen was one of the best experiences I have had at Suffield thus far, and the family formed by the cast made every rehearsal worth it. With graduation coming up in the spring, I am saddened by the thought that I will not be a part of another Suffield musical, but I will be back to watch the musical next fall and will continue to support the performing arts wherever I go!”

Every December, these shows highlight the immense artistic talents in the Suffield Academy community and serve as a highlight of the winter term.
