Elizabeth Warren

Liz serves as Suffield Academy’s Cultural Diversity Director and teaches Leadership. She is the faculty advisor of MCA, SOC, the mentoring program, and Sister Sister. She is also the school’s representative to the SPHERE program where she facilitates workshops for students, faculty, and staff. Liz earned both a bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Science and master’s degree in Science Management from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, where she held several positions in student government and campus life. She was also an admissions counselor at Mount Vernon and coordinated multicultural and international student recruitment. She completed the Kingswood-Oxford Leadership Institute for Educators of Color, a program designed for educators of color at independent schools, and most recently presented at Carney Sandoe’s Diversity FORUM on Using Compassionate Curiosity to Combat Implicit Bias.

Liz is also the co-organizer of ABAR Suffield, an anti-bias an anti-racism group who works to dismantle systematic racism within the greater Suffield community. Liz lives on campus with her husband Rick [boys’ varsity soccer coach and math department] and their four children Nicholas, Caleb, William, and Preston.

Where were you born? ​
Dalton, Ohio.

What do you love about where you are from? ​
The small town friendliness and my entire family (parents and extended family) grew up there.

If someone was traveling to where you are from for 24 hours, what would you recommend? ​
Visit Amish Country or Cedar Point. 

What would you tell them to do/ where would you tell them to go? 
In Amish Country: Heinis Cheese Chalet.
Cedar Point Must Rides: Corkscrew, Raptor, Magnum and Millennium Force.

What do you love about where you live now? ​
Suffield reminds me of the town I grew up it, it's just quite a bit larger than Dalton.

What is your favorite thing about day to day life at Suffield Academy? ​
The sunsets, or should I say Suffsets 🙂 

What is the first thing you do every morning when you get to work? ​
Turn on my space heater—I’m always cold!

Who do you live on campus with? 
My husband, Rick, our four boys, Nicholas, Caleb, William & Preston, and our labradoodle Milo.

How do you think your dog would describe you?
Crazy yet lovable. 

Which of your roles at Suffield Academy do you relish the most? ​
I love all of the roles I have here at Suffield but what I love the most is the relationships I'm able to build with others. From faculty and staff to students and their families, there is always someone new to meet and get to know. I love hearing about where others are from and their experiences. I believe in the value of deeply listening to others to gain a better understanding of who they are. There are so many opportunities to foster new (and old) relationships here.

What is the favorite thing in your closet? 
​My Suffield Academy leggings.

What is something you believe one can never over-invest in? 
​True love.

What is your favorite song of all time? 
​There are so many! On the top of my list is “More Than Words” by Extreme.

If you could have dinner with one person, alive or dead, who would you dine with? ​
Lewis Zachary.

Who is your role model?/ Inspiration? ​
My sister Jennifer.

If you could ask anyone for advice, who would you ask? (alive or dead) ​
My grandpa Warren Ryder.

What is your favorite movie? ​
Cool Runnings.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? 
​Tahiti with Mr. Warren. Tahiti is my dream vacation and he’s my favorite person.

What is your favorite food? 
I love a good salad but my passion is anything sweet.
