Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Fiona began taking French at Lincoln School for Girls where she immediately fell in love with language learning. She received a bachelor’s degree in Francophone studies and theater from Bowdoin College. Fiona also spent a semester abroad in Nantes, France where she lived with a host family of five children and taught English at an elementary school. Back at Bowdoin, she wrote her honors thesis on the baccalauréat exam and education reform in France.
After graduating, Fiona worked as a French teaching assistant and dorm parent at St. George’s School. She then spent a year living in France where she taught English at l’Université Clermont-Auvergne. Fiona is currently working towards a Master’s in French at Middlebury College. In addition to teaching French at Suffield, Fiona assists the theater and dance afternoon programs, and is the GSA faculty advisor. In her free time, she loves to knit, do puzzles, travel, and tap dance.

Which of your roles at Suffield Academy do you relish the most?
I love being an advisor to the Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA). It’s wonderful to watch students celebrate who they are while making positive change in their community.

Who is your role model/inspiration?
My sister Grace, who is a 15-year cancer survivor. She reminds me to persevere, stay positive, and be kind to everyone, because you never know what battles other people are fighting.
