Jazzy Salehi Mercure ’12

Jazzy is a native of Massachusetts and cum laude graduate of Mount Holyoke College where she also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching. She is a proud alumna of Suffield’s Class of 2012 and honorary member of the school’s Torch Society.

Jazzy returned to campus in 2017 and has filled a variety of roles. She served as a classroom teacher and an Assistant Director of Admissions, and now works in the academic office. Her passion for education and teaching began over ten years ago during her first experience at Suffield’s Summer Academy while serving as a teacher’s assistant and teacher. Apart from her daily doses of tea and chocolate, Jazzy enjoys traveling, reading, and baking. She is the advisor to the yearbook, was the co-advisor to the Class of 2022, and is the dorm head in Brodie Hall where she lives with her husband, Matt.

What do you love about where you are from?
I grew up in Westfield, Massachusetts. I met some of the most important people in my life in my hometown: my husband and some of my dearest friends.

Where is your favorite spot on Suffield Academy’s campus?
The dining hall—I cherish our tradition of sit-down lunch. As an alum and faculty member, I love that it is a time where we can come together as a community and share a delicious meal.

What is the first thing you do every morning when you get to work?
I start each morning by reading the inspirational quote of the day that sits on my desk. This helps me start each day with positivity and set the tone for the type of day I hope to have.

Who is your favorite artist?
Andrea Bocelli

Which of your roles at Suffield Academy do you relish the most?
All of my roles at Suffield hold a special place in my heart. I love watching students overcome challenges that they did not think were possible through my role in the academic office and as a classroom teacher.

What is something you believe one can never over-invest in?
Kindness, health, and time with loved ones.

What is your favorite motto?
"How you do anything is how you do everything".

What is your favorite food?
Zereshk Polo (a Persian rice dish mixed with dried zereshk berries, sautéed onions, and chicken). Food is how I am able to connect most with my culture. I love cooking and sharing meals with my family.

What are your summer plans?
Lots of reading and a bit of traveling. My husband, Matt, and I love to go to York, Maine every year with family, and we are venturing to Italy together for the first time this summer.
