Rachel joined the Suffield faculty in 2018. She earned her master’s degree in liberal studies with a concentration in humanities and a certificate in educational leadership from Wesleyan University in 2023. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

In addition to teaching in the English department, Rachel is a JV girls’ soccer coach, and a certified yoga instructor for the Balance Barn at Suffield. She is also a dorm head in Tompkins where she lives with her partner Kent.

What do you love about where you are from?
I grew up in a town right next to Suffield in Agawam, MA. I loved living in the same town as my grandparents and have fond memories of being at their pool with all of my family. Having a Six Flags right around the corner was a great bonus as a kid too.

Where is your favorite spot on Suffield Academy’s campus?
The Balance Barn! I love teaching yoga there and disconnecting from the bustle of campus. The sunset view from there also rivals the one from Bell Hill.

What is the first thing you do every morning when you get to work?
I check my email and then complete the NYT Wordle and Connections. I will be adding their new game Strands to that routine as well!

Who is your favorite artist?
I love Taylor Swift, Noah Kahan, and Maggie Rogers.

Which of your roles at Suffield Academy do you relish the most?
I love teaching my senior English seminar, Representations of Boarding Schools and giving space for students to reflect on their time at Suffield. I am also excited to serve as a class advisor for the class of ’28!

What is something you believe one can never over-invest in?
Books!

What is your favorite motto?
“Be where your feet are.” I learned this during my yoga teacher training and it’s a great reminder to stay present.

What is your favorite food?
I’ve never met a salad I haven’t liked. I could also eat the grain bowls from the dining hall for every meal.

What are your summer plans?
I'll be traveling to Charleston, South Carolina and Boothbay Harbor, Maine, spending a lot of time reading on my patio, and frequenting local coffee shops. My partner, Kent, is also moving onto campus with me.
