On January 27, fourteen SAMUN delegates traveled to Boston for the 69th session of Harvard’s Model United Nations. Accompanied by faculty advisor Mr. Riegel, and chaperons Mr. Mercure and Ms. Salehi, the group took on a variety of global issues ranging from the middle-eastern refugee crisis to the future of the European Union.

Suffield represented the Republic of Cyprus on 8 Committees: Disarmament and International Security Committee, Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, Special Political and Decolonization Committee, Legal Committee, Special Summit on Terrorism, the United Nations Environmental Programme, the European Union, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The delegates who participated displayed a deep understanding of international relations and dedicated an enormous amount of time to familiarize themselves with Cyprus’s stances regarding its foreign affairs and diplomatic presence. These delegates included: seniors Ben Reimer, Zeno Dancanet, Grace Kotchen, and juniors Saud Shawwaf, Mia Rubenstein, Juana Diez, Steven Wang, Sophia Kim, Helena Ladah, and Luella Uchitel. Additionally, however, there was a respectable attendance of underclassman, which is exciting for the continued future of Model UN. These delegates were sophomores Sean Wilson, Meiyi Chen, Chasity Blair, and Guru Anand.

Suffield extends its recognition to Guru and Zeno who won the award for outstanding delegate in their committee. They challenged themselves through extreme dedication, hard work, in-depth research, and a superb ability to debate and compromise. Moreover, Suffield congratulates Saud, Grace, Sean, and Steven for winning the award for diplomatic commendation in their respective committees. These delegates showed fierce commitment and were dominant when debating and conferencing.
