Among the many Suffield Academy traditions, there is the Senior Art Exhibition. Throughout the year, many seniors have the opportunity to set up the galleries in the Tremaine Visual Art Center and showcase their artwork. I had the chance to speak with several of them, and they expressed their love for art and demonstrated that their work reflects their interests.

Brendan Mastella went as far as to state, “My art originates from a place in my brain that I'm not entirely sure of.” Chidinma Esielem, who has a show with Julia Bao and Stacy Yurkovskaya coming up on February 28, cherishes the opportunity to showcase her work. “I think sometimes I'm huddled in the ceramic studio, doing work, and most of my peers don't know how big ceramics is in my life. So, getting to share that with everyone is really special to me.”

Not only do students get to show off the culmination of their Suffield art careers, but the Art Department also hopes these exhibits benefit their students past their time in high school. Mrs. Graham, Mr. Vandervoort, Ms. Booth, and Mrs. Caginalp all strive to provide their students with the tools to elevate their art and professional skills, including how to set up an art show and create publicity. The seniors are creating remarkable art that ties into their family, culture, faith, and hobbies, so if you haven't already, please come and support your fellow peers.
