Senior Swim Meet

On Saturday February 18, Suffield Academy had their last home senior swim meet against Northfield Mount Hermon School. Northfield Hermon School has a ranking score of 350.73 and is second in Massachusetts for swim team prep school. Going into the meet, Suffield men’s varsity had five loses and 2 wins. The women had three wins and three losses. Suffield’s Senior captains are Chase Stevens, Connor Booth, Anna Calkins, and Campbell Rosow. Another four swimmers fill out the Senior roster: Ryan Piela, Hope Clark, Emilia Boino, Ben Broxson. Chase plans to swim at Babson next year, while Connor will join the Gettysburg team and Ben will compete at Trinity.

I asked team member Dom Balise ’24; “what are you most proud of this season?” and “What was your thought process during the race?” He replied “I am proud of myself for trying something new and getting better at it. This was my first time being on a swim team, and I was a little nervous because I knew I wasn’t going to be as good as everybody else. However, the team has been nothing but supportive, and I am very happy with how much I have improved since the beginning of the season! I’ve dropped 12 seconds total on my 50 free!” Suffield had several memorable events at Saturday’s meet. These included, in the first half of the meet, the women’s 200 free timed finals. Hope Clark was neck and neck through much of that race but ending up beating her opponent, while Parker Valero ’26 won the 200 IM men’s timed finals. The diving portion of the meet featured one diver, Suffield Academy’s Max Giugliano ’24, who performed six dives, with scores ranging from four to seven and a half. The second half of the meet included the women’s 500 free timed finals, with Laura Bachmann claiming first place, and the men’s 500 free timed finals, with an impressive win by Kellen Booth ’25. The entire team swam well, and the eight seniors should be proud of their hard work this season!
