Meals and activities help build friendships between all students, as does time spent in the classroom, on the athletic fields, and in common spaces such as the Student Union. The Summer Academy can be intense. You are expected to be open to learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom and should be prepared to grow socially as well as intellectually.

Facilities
Academic Spaces: Most Summer Academy classes use Centurion Hall. Centurion is climate controlled and features large classrooms equipped with round conference tables, which help to facilitate group discussion. The classrooms are also designed to utilize extensive natural light.

Athletic Facilities: Some of the facilities Summer Academy students have access to include the Academy’s six-lane championship swimming pool, fitness center complete with free weights and Nautilus machines, basketball court, tennis courts, eight international squash courts, and a brand new, state-of-the-art field house.

Visual and Performing Arts Centers: When students try a new sport, pick up a paintbrush, or step into the spotlight in the performing arts center, they unearth talents and passions unknown to them—unknown because they are often untried. Healthy risk-taking is an important part of everyday life at the Summer Academy, and we encourage students to challenge themselves, and to step outside of their comfort zones.

Weekend Activities
Weekends are an opportunity for students to explore New England, and also offer a release from the rigors of the academic week. The Summer Academy plans activities and trips for students each weekend. Trips include New York City (Broadway shows, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, museums), Boston (tour colonial sites, Faneuil Hall, New England Aquarium, Cambridge), and Newport (swimming at the beach, visit a restored colonial village).

Details about weekend activities and trips during the summer of 2021 will be available in the coming months.

The Summer Academy at Suffield welcomes students from ages 12 to 18 from around the world. We hope you will join us for five memorable weeks where you will have the opportunity to meet new friends, enhance your study skills, and prepare for the next academic year. Each summer over 130 students from around the globe come to the Summer Academy at Suffield to experience life in our community—a life filled with exciting opportunities to learn both in and out of the classroom.

Students enroll in the Summer Academy to expand their skills, whether in the classroom, in the art studio, or on the playing fields. Being part of our community means being part of a hands-on learning experience. For five weeks you will have the opportunity to eat, live, learn, and laugh with a culturally diverse group of peers and faculty members. Students have the opportunity to choose their academic program for the summer and participate in a great variety of activities. Our academic program focuses on the areas of the arts, leadership, math and science, the English language, and a general program where students can take a range of courses in math, science, music, art, English, and foreign languages.

Additionally, we are offering an online program for students to pursue a Suffield summer education from the comfort of their own home. Students can fulfill their academic goals while enjoying the advantages of our summer on-campus experience through virtual learning. Students will be provided with rigorous and engaging classes, a devoted support system and learning community, invaluable resources and relationships, and teachers who are passionate about their work and are dedicated to each and every student.
