The Color Wars: Suffield Supports TeamBrent

Suffield’s student council held its first major fundraiser in support of this year’s community selected charity on October 20. The activity represented one of three school-wide events aimed at raising money and awareness in support of an organization outside of Suffield Academy. This year’s charity is TeamBrent.
More children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease—in fact, more than many other childhood diseases combined. Before they turn 20, about one in 285 children in the U.S. will have cancer. Yet childhood cancer research and care receives such a small part of funds from groups that are not purely dedicated to children. That is why it is so important to support organizations like TeamBrent who direct their efforts solely to childhood cancer.
The color wars took place on Suffield’s academic quad, and groups were divided by class year and identified by team bandanas. Purchasing paint from individual class representatives, the grade collecting the most donations won the wars. The evening concluded with a water slide down Bell Hill and social gathering.
Student Council President Becca Bauer ’19 commented, “Supporting TeamBrent is important to us because Suffield can create change on our own campus very easily. Cancer will at some point affect everyone in a certain aspect of their lives. Knowing we can make a change is inspiring and student council is excited to see what this year can accomplish for TeamBrent.”
Student Council Vice President Jason Choi ’19 noted, “This charity represents a positive way to unite our student body while making a difference in our local community. TeamBrent is unique because it has such a personal history with Madi McCreesh ’19, her family, and her brother. We hope to make this year’s fundraising efforts the most successful in school history.”
