Why Summer Academy at Suffield

Mike Trevallion ’18 Agawam, Massachusetts
While meeting interesting people from all around the world, Summer Academy prepared me for Suffield’s rigorous curriculum. With the help of Mr. Warren, I felt perfectly prepared for Algebra II and gained a thorough understanding of the material. I highly recommend Summer Academy to all of those who are new to Suffield or enjoy learning.

I attended Summer Academy at Suffield this past summer. The experience was invaluable. Not only did it prepare me for the upcoming school year but it also helped me to become more independent. Given the opportunity, I would definitely do it again.

I attended Summer Academy for two summers and had great experiences. The teachers and teaching assistants were very supportive and friendly, helping prepare me for life at Suffield. I enjoyed playing sports, the various weekend activities, and the diverse culture of the community. Summer Academy teaches you what you will need to succeed.

Summer Academy was a unique and memorable opportunity. My classes were interesting and we took trips throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island. I made friends from all over the globe and got a head start adjusting to life at boarding school.

Visual and Performing Arts Centers
The Tremaine Visual Art Center is equipped with five studios and professional equipment in support of five core disciplines: ceramics, photography, digital art, woodworking, and painting and drawing. The Music Center has a piano practice room with digital keyboards to accommodate group classes, a large practice room, a recording studio, and four individual practice rooms each with a small piano. The other arts building on campus is the Jeanice Seaverns Performing Arts Center, which is home to a 200-seat theater and a new lighting system.

Most Summer Academy classes use the newly built Centurion Hall, constructed in 2002. Centurion is climate controlled and features large classrooms equipped with round conference tables, which help to facilitate group discussion. The classrooms are also designed to utilize natural light.

Athletic Facilities
Some of the facilities Summer Academy students have access to include: the Academy’s six-lane championship swimming pool, newly renovated and refurbished fitness center complete with free weights and Nautilus machines, basketball court, tennis courts, and four international squash courts.
