Stiles Walk

Completed 2015 Repurposing and Connecting Quadrangles

Suffield converted Stiles from a road into a central campus walkway that beautifully connects the academic and residential quadrangles. A linear pedestrian corridor was established with three major hubs, serving as gathering spaces for meeting or sitting. There is an ordered composition of trees that add scale and structure. Tall, narrow trees with high canopies line the corridor, groupings of lower trees are around the hub areas, and a collection of specimen trees serve as anchors at strategic points. Suffield worked on this project with noted landscape architect Peter Meyer from Raycroft/Meyer. The project accomplished two goals: (1) removing vehicle traffic from the center of campus, and (2) naturally connecting the academic and residential quads with a center campus path.
