Tigers tie game as clock counts down
Suffield Academy’s Tiger B soccer, opened the season with a dramatic 1-1 tie against their rivals Hebrew High. It was the 3rd straight tie against the Eagles and the game finished spectacularly with a last minute equalizer by keeper turned striker, Captain Justin Hern. With time winding down, Justin raced down the field and struck a beautiful ball into the corner of the net to the delight of the home fans.
The Tigers kept a clean sheet for most of the game despite constant pressure from the opposition, thanks to stand out performances from first time keeper Michael Greco and Captain Junyang Chen on defense. With what could have been a record, Michael made close to 20 saves throughout the course of the game. Defenders Andrew Dzhendzheruha, Arnold Chung, Sinichi Sato, and Minh Nguyen also had great performances against the physically bigger opposition.
Quinn Matthes was a standout in our midfield, who combined with Jack Wolfman, Henry Lee, Kenny Lin, John Zhang, and Owen Kinne, was able to string together many instances of good attacking play.
Many first time soccer players that were able to get some valuable experience including Conor Donovan, Jaid Dunn, Neil Shady, Kao Kitichokul, Peter Jiang, and Teddy Taylor. Players that were limited by injury but also made contributions on the field or supporting the team from the sidelines were Tim Cordes, Luke Bonini, Andrew Gingold, and Cam Parrow.
