Big win over Westminster for GJVS...

On a beautiful, warm fall day, the girls opened their home schedule with a convincing win vs. Westminster. Lilly Rotter opened the scoring in the12th minute off a beautiful cross from Emma Winiarski. A minute later, in almost exact replay fashion, Lilly netted her second, again from Emma. With 11 minutes to go in the first half, Sabrina Louro crashed the net and planted the rebound into the back of the net to push the lead to 3. The girls did a fantastic job controlling the ball and keeping the pressure on Westminster all half. With 2 minutes to go, Eliza Gregory dribbled the ball down the left side of the field, cut in towards the net and slipped the ball into the short side. Despite the hard work, a brief mental lapse allowed Westminster to gain control of the ball, push in down field, gather a loose ball in the box and get on the board. Despite the breakdown, the girls remained upbeat and focused. The second half began quickly for Suffield, as Lilly netted her third of the game to push lead to 4. Sabrina got her second of the game 13 minutes into the half and the possession game continued. Natassa Flevotomos found the back of the net with 10 minutes to go on a deep shot from outside the 18. Abby Fort ended the scoring after a hard fought one on one battle. Overall, the girls played great. Lots of solid passing and possession of the ball. The defense played well as a unit and kept Westminster from mounting a comeback. Maya Grant made a few saves and has vastly improved her punting and clearing. Next up is a trip to Farmington, CT to take on Miss Porter's School at 3:00 PM on Wednesday.
