Tigers run strong at Miller Invitational...
At the Richard Miller Invitational Suffield's varsity boys toed the line with Deerfield, Westminster, Williston, Kent, Salisbury, Williams, Canterbury and Worcester. Deerfield dominated the field followed closely by the home team, Westminster. Suffield put up a good fight against Williston but ended up a strong fourth against the large field. The team rose to the occasion as all the returning athletes ran personal bests on the course. Ethan Ash '20 led the team and was 27 seconds faster than last year, finishing in 21st place in 19:05, Milo Marcus '18 was 40 seconds faster (28th, 19:25), Shane Donahue '19 was 60 seconds faster (28th, 19:45) and Dominic Colangelo '19 was 45 seconds faster (35th, 20:10). Nick Briones '20 (27th, 19:42), Sam Ingalls '20 (30th, 19:56) and Bobby Flynn '19 (34th, 20:08) ran great times for their first time on the course. The entire team worked together well so that every runner finished in the top 35.
Suffield's JV boys were the last race on the schedule closing out the meet with exceptional races and multiple personal bests. Mike Robidoux '19 led the way with Stanley Huang '20 only seconds behind and over a minute faster than last year. Jim Hou '21 continued his rapid improvement with another personal best this week. John Killiam '18 ran two minutes faster than last year, a highly impressive race from the four year cross country athlete. Vaughn Rogers '20 ran very well with a time he only bested the last two meets of last year on more forgiving courses. Nick Selvitelli '20 set a new personal record by almost a minute and Eli Li '21 took almost three minutes off his time in just his second 5k race ever. Myles Bard '20 finished a solid race despite some injury setbacks early on this season. Kush Shah '19 ran almost three minutes faster than last week, and James Woolley '20 showed grit and determination despite dealing with a painful ankle injury this week.
Thanks to all the parents and friends who came to Simsbury to cheer on the team. We look forward to hosting the Gordon Glover Invitational next Saturday on Parents Weekend.
