Close one for Varsity Waterpolo...
The Tigers welcomed Hopkins into their pool on a fine fall day for what was surely to be yet another close match up if history had were to be followed. Playing in familiar waters, Suffield started off with a measure of confidence that had not been seen since the season opener against Hotchkiss. The Tigers took the lead at the end of the first quarter, 4-3. However, this did not thwart Hopkins' shooting effort, as they netted an additional six in the second quarter to Suffield's two, largely on the strength of a single shooter (8 goals in first half). The score was now 6-9, at the half.
Suffield was not ready to roll over. The third quarter gave witness to aggressive offensive play (not matched by stellar defense) at each end of the pool. At the end of the third quarter, the Tigers had now narrowed Hopkins' lead to two goals, 9-11 Hopkins. Both teams' starters were starting to feel the exhaustion of the game as they entered the final quarter. Suffield put forth a commendable effort; however, they fell short to Hopkins in the end.
Scoring for Suffield: Miranda (4), Bass (3), Lunsford (2), Beaulieu (1), Ku (1), Kress (1).
