Big win for the Tigers...
In a must win contest to keep the Tigers' hope for postseason play alive, Suffield hosted an energetic Williston team, coached by former Orange coach, Bill Berghoff. Suffield hoped to improve upon lackluster defensive efforts in recent games, and to capitalize on the fact that Williston's starting goalie could not get to the pool for the start of the game.
Suffield's polomen followed a focused defensive strategy, regularly counter attacking effectively on turnovers created for the Tiger offense. This resulted in an impressive 6-0 Q1 domination, the best quarter Suffield has registered this season. The next two quarters were more evenly contested, with the Orange gaining a slight advantage in scoring, 8-6, resulting in a 14-6 lead going into the final quarter.
Regular Suffield substitution kept the intensity up for the Orange attackers, with all thirteen players earning minutes of play time in the second half, and propelling the team to a comfortable 17-8 win at the final buzzer. Marco Secchiaroli, Andrew Budge, Ryan Lunsford, James Kagan, and Jordan Slade displayed poise and aggressiveness and opportunism in supporting the starting team. In his best offensive effort of the season, Walter Kress netted five goals, and he was joined in the scoring by Max Miranda (3), Cian Beaulieu (2), Lunsford (2), Secchiaroli (2), Melvin Ku (1), Sasha Derby (1), and Elias Smith (1). Derby and Ku also alternated quarters netminding, recording four saves each in the outing.
Suffield hosts a much improved Canterbury squad on Wednesday, October 11, in another league game.
