Tigers finish a close 2nd to Avon in Glover Invitational...
Suffield had a very strong day on the home course against Avon Old Farms, Pomfret, Canterbury, and Worcester Academy. The scores based on the top five runners for each team resulted in a tie for first place, with Avon winning the tiebreaker over Suffield based on the sixth finishers from each team. There was a strong sense of déjà vu as this was the exact same scenario as the last time Avon visited Suffield in 2015. The Tigers were able to hold their heads high with the close finish against the Division I team. Three Suffield runners earned a plaque for finishing in the top five with Ethan Ash '20 in second, Milo Marcus '18 in third and Nick Briones '20 in fourth. Dominic Colangelo '19 continues to be a powerhouse for the team with his 11th place overall finish and Bobby Flynn '19 closed out the top five runners with a solid 13th place overall. Kevin Kuzmeski '18 in only his third 5k race ever took another 56 seconds off his PR with Shane Donahue '19 only a few seconds behind him finishing up the varsity positions.
Suffield showed its depth as Stanley Huang '20 and Michael Robidoux '18 both finished in the top 30 overall. John Killam '18 ran 40 seconds faster than last year demonstrating great leadership today. Vaughn Rogers '19 again impressed, taking another 15 seconds off his time from last year. Nick Selvitelli '20 continued to power through the season with a great time on the course. Eli Li '21 took another 20 seconds off his PR. Daniel Ennis '21 and Kush Shah '19 worked hard and had solid performances. A real shining moment today was watching James Woolley '20 cross the line in a new personal best by two minutes. The hard work of all these athletes over the past four weeks really showed today.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped organize the races and all the parents, alumni and friends who cheered for us this weekend.
