Close one for Girls JV Soccer...
Suffield - 2
Berkshire - 3
It was another tough and close loss for the girls, this time at the hands of the Berkshire Bears on their Parent's Weekend. It was a beautiful day in the Berkshires, but it would have been even better had the girls come away with the win. We certainly had our chances! Berkshire got on the board first in the 8th minute off a through ball that was buried into the net with a hard shot. Berkshire continued to keep the pressure on as they cleared our attacks with long passes forward that kept our defense hustling and working hard to clear the ball. We settle down a bit in the second half as Berkshire began to tire a bit and we began to possess the ball a bit more. A tough bounce off a corner kick gave the bears a 2-0 advantage, but the Tigers were not deterred. halfway through the second frame, Lilly Rooter fired a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and bounced around a bit before Eliza Gregory used virtually her whole body to guide the ball into the net. Unfortunately Berkshire answered shortly there after to regain a 2 goal advantage. Suffield kept the pressure on and in one sequence, managed to hit the lower right post, and 2 crossbars in succession as the girls tried to draw closer. The final goal came off the foot of Natassa Flevotomos in classic "boomtime" fashion as she fired a shot from well outside the 18' that found its way over the outstretched hand of the goalie and just under the crossbar...the same crossbar that we hit 3 other times on this day. The girls gave it their all, but again came up just short. A week of practice to fine tune a few things and work on the "off-foot" should help us gear up for on next game on Saturday vs. Loomis at home at 2:30.
