Tigers play well at Westminster...
With our second game in 3 days, the girls traveled to Simsbury to take on the Martlets of Westminster in the second leg of our annual home and home series. Once again, the girls came away with the win as they demonstrated solid and relentless soccer for virtually the entire 70 minutes. Despite being down a few players, the girls hung together and played and excellent team game. Solid communication, deft passing, and smart decision making made the game one of our best. Suffield came out early and dictated play, only to be turned away at the goal on numerous occasions. Even an indirect kick from the 6 yard line couldn't find the back of the net as it bounced off the cross bar and the rebound was cleared away. Finally, with 5:35 remaining on the clock in the first half, an errant pass by a Westminster defender resulted in an own goal, giving the Lady Tigers the 1-0 lead. Spirits were high at the half, and the group was determined to keep the pressure on. 8 minutes into the second half, Lilly Rotter pounced on a loose ball, too a few touches to her right and BOOM! 6 minutes later. Emma Winiarski crossed a ball into the middle where Lilly sent the ball to Sabrina Louro who shot it through the goalie's hands to extend the lead. Westminster got on the board with 4 minutes left to end the 191+ minute streak of shut out. Suffield got the 3 goal lead back though as Tayla Ziadie found Sabrina at the top of the 18', who fired a beautiful left footed shot into the far left side of the net with 40 seconds remaining on the clock. Overall, a great team win. It is a quick turnaround for the girls as they face Williston at home at 3:00 PM on Saturday, looking to keep the winning streak going.
