Tigers fall to the Wildcats of Williston...
Hands down, the best game of the season. Though not the outcome we desired, the girls played hard for the whole 70 minutes. A strong southerly wind made for a distinct advantage for those kicking towards the northern end of the field. Suffield had the wind in the first half and took advantage. Lots of pressure, two shots off the crossbar, and the girls had Williston on their heels. Lilly Rotter broke the tie with a goal in the 27th minute to give Suffield the lead. Emma Winiarski sent a pretty through ball to Sabrina Louro who was not able to get a foot on it, but Rotter was there to fire the ball over the head of the goalie. Unfortunately 2:30 minutes later, Williston countered. Off a corner kick, the clearing ball was blocked, bounced up in the air and was tapped into the net. 1:15 minutes later, Williston took a strong shot from outside the 18 that curved into upper left corner of the net, just past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Natassa Flevotomos as regular keeper Maya Grant was sidelined once again. Though down at the half, the girls spirits were not. Unfortunately 4 minutes into the second half, Williston found the back of the net as a lack of pressure in the midfield led to a quick rush that resulted in a 3-1 lead for the visitors. Despite the score, the girls did not give up! The hard work and effort continued and the group was rewarded with a goal by Emma with 7 minutes to go as she gathered a clearing ball, carried to the top of the 18' and shot into the far corner. A flurry of activity continued in the final minutes, but the tie could not be reached. It was a busy week for the girls with 4 games in 7 days, but they certainly saved their best for last. Natassa played great in goal making 11 saves, and the defense, made up of Sam O'Meara, Abby Fort, Anna Wilcox, Rori Zwirko, and Robyn Campos, was strong all day. Next up is the team's final road trip as we head North to Deerfield for a 3:00 PM start.
