Tigers fall to the Big Green of Deerfield...
The Tiger polomen hoped for a result reversal in their second game of the season with Deerfield, at home. Deerfield had captured the first contest between the two teams, 17-11. Both teams have come on strong late in the season, challenging several top ranked teams (Loomis, Andover) in close contests.
Even with the odds a bit stacked against them, Suffield kept Deerfield honest for the entirety of the contest. The first quarter was a back and forth affair, ending in a slim 4-3 lead for Deerfield. The Green came out with more opportunistic play early in Q2, and sprinted to a larger lead, only partially answered by a few set offense goals by Suffield. At halftime, the score stood at 8-5, Deerfield. Following a familiar pattern, the Tigers took charge of Q3, outscoring the visitors by a margin of two goals. The game had become a barnburner, with Deerfield clinging to a 10-9 lead entering the final quarter of regulation play. A few offensive passing miscues and excellent DA counter attacking early in the final quarter dimmed Orange hopes of an upset, however. Three quick Deerfield goals put them effectively out of reach with three minutes of play remaining. Suffield outscored DA 2-1 over these final three minutes, but came up short, 11-14.
Scoring for Suffield was spread evenly across the starting six: Walter Kress (2), Cian Beaulieu (2), Derby (2), Ryan Lunsford (2), Max Bass (2), and Elias Smith (1).
Goalkeepers Ku and Derby made six saves apiece, with Ku netminding in the deep end, and Derby the shallow goal.
On Saturday, November 4, Suffield hosts top ranked Brunswick School (3:00) and Choate (5:30) for the TIgers' final regular season games.
Season record to date: 7-7
